Dermal facial fillers are synthetic or naturally sourced hyaluronic acid gels that are cosmetically inserted into the skin directly. This is done to plump an area of skin to a point where a depression, fold or wrinkle disappears. This effect can last from six to twenty-four months, depending on the type of fillers you choose. With synthetic fillers, they tend to last significantly longer, and will only call for an additional treatment once your face has aged over time and up to the point you need another treatment.

Fillers are cosmetic procedures that are usually done in a facial plastic surgeon’s office; as such, they’re effective and minimally invasive treatments that help you look younger and fuller. The following discusses why fillers work hard to help turn back a little time on your face.

They Are Made of Natural Substances

The beauty of facial fillers is that they are made with hyaluronic acid and collagen, which are already naturally occurring substances found inside your body. In 2003, the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) approved hyaluronic acid for use in dermal facial fillers. However, back in 1981, collagen fillers received FDA approval. Both are effective at volumizing and hydrating the skin without the use of harsh or dangerous chemicals that your body may reject or adversely react to.

Different Types for Different Areas

Another reason why fillers work so well is due to the abundance of different types, like Juvederm®, Sculptra®, and Restylane® to name a few of the most popular. Each kind, whether naturally sourced, or synthetic, can be used separately, or in combination, to treat certain areas of the face. Some work well for crows’ feet and wrinkles around the eyes, while others are effective for treating frown lines and deep wrinkles on the forehead. Then there are the ones that work to plump lips and remove smile lines or fine wrinkling around the mouth. Each is different and effective separate or in combination.  These days, many facial plastic surgeons, like Dr. Bradford Patt in Houston, use dermal facial fillers in combination with Botox® skin injections to bring about lasting and remarkable results.

They Are Convenient

In many ways, dermal fillers are convenient for most patients opting for treatment. For one, they’re noninvasive, which means low risks, and little to no downtime or recovery periods. Second, since they are temporary or semi-permanent, this makes them ideal to try out to see whether they’re right for you. Lastly, dermal facial fillers are much more affordable compared to facelift rhytidectomies, and other cosmetic procedures. They offer a small investment towards a youthful appearance, and can be performed fairly quickly before major events or special occasions.
